Project Concept

The vision was to convert a dated cottage, untouched for over 40 years, into a generous family home suited to modern living. The design sought to retain the charm and identity of the original cottage while introducing contemporary spaces, improved layouts, and high-quality facilities throughout.

The vision was to convert a dated cottage, untouched for over 40 years, into a generous family home suited to modern living. The design sought to retain the charm and identity of the original cottage while introducing contemporary spaces, improved layouts, and high-quality facilities throughout.

The vision was to convert a dated cottage, untouched for over 40 years, into a generous family home suited to modern living. The design sought to retain the charm and identity of the original cottage while introducing contemporary spaces, improved layouts, and high-quality facilities throughout.

Our process

We explored multiple design options to achieve a traditional aesthetic with a modern twist. The property’s elevated position and views across the valley toward Alderley Edge strongly influenced the layout, with bedroom orientations designed to maximise these views. The planning process presented challenges due to greenbelt volume restrictions enforced by Cheshire East Council. Through careful justification and reference to ribbon development, we successfully demonstrated the acceptability of the additional volume. Planning permission was granted approximately 11 months after submission. Alongside the main house, we designed a detached games room under permitted development. High-quality internal and external 3D renders were produced to help the client visualise the final design.
